DIY: Basic Crochet Boot Cuffs

I like to create a lot of things when I have the time. The only thing that holds me back eighty-five percent of the time is my major procrastination problem. After a year of having this blog up and not posting a single thing, I've decided to make this site active.

I've had a busy holiday season and while I am thankful for the many sales that Christmas brought to me, I am also thankful that I finally have a break from making the same scarf and hat five hundred times. I have a few patterns now ingrained in brain forever, including the lace scarf from Lindsi and Miriam's Beard Hat pattern.

It's a new year which means I want to start some new goals. My shop seems to only be busy during the holiday season and I would like to try to change that. I'm trying to get some new patterns together! It's just tough to motivate somebody like myself when I have one hundred things running through my brain at one time.

My first new project is a simple pair of boot cuffs! If you're simple like me, these are the perfect set of boot cuffs for you too. You can leave them with or without a button, whichever you please, they will still look just as cute!

Materials I used:

1 Skein of Vanna's Choice Yarn
J/6.00 MM Hook
Set of Buttons (optional)
Yarn Needles

Abbreviations:

HDC: Half Double Crochet
BLO: Back Loop Only

Row 1: First, you are going to chain 22. You can chain how ever many you would like. This is going to be how long (or tall) your boot cuff is.

Row 2: Skip two stitches, HDC (half double crochet) in each chain. You're going to have 20 half double crochets when you get to the end. Chain 2. Turn.

how your HDCs and chain 2 will look after row 2

Row 3: HDC in the BLO of each of the stitches. (20) Chain 2. Turn.

crocheting in the BLO means in the back side of each stitch (the back of the "v")!

You are going to repeat row 3 until the boot cuff fits your calf OR wherever your boot cuff is going to sit! I know I have taller boots that almost hit my knee and combat boots that are closer to my ankle. Make it as wide as the part of the leg you want the cuff to stay put. I recommend making the boot cuff a little smaller than what you measure. The yarn will stretch out and you don't want it to be loose. Test it out before joining the ends! I'm making these for my taller boots so I'll be measuring my calf.

preeeetttty!

Once you are done, fold the ends together of the side you don't want facing you and slip stitch them together. Mine ended up being nineteen rows. (the biggest part of my calf is about 13 inches) I tried twenty but when I put it on, it felt a little loose so I took out the yarn and readjusted it.

Make this twice! It's a set so ... clearly, two need to be made. Unless you have four legs, go for four. No judgment here. At all.

Optional:

You can add buttons to these cute, simple boot cuffs! Or you can crochet little hearts and attach them to the fronts, backs, or sides to make the perfect set to wear (or to gift!) for Valentine's Day, a holiday that will come a lot faster than we think. I used Rachel's Super Easy To Follow Heart Tutorial and attached them to the front of the set I made.

cute as heck
